Mum's Memorial Bench

Created by Jim 10 years ago
We have had a memorial bench, complete with commemorative Plaque, placed in Buckingham Park, Shoreham-by Sea. The plaque reads : In celebration of our dear parents MARIE & JIM WEAVER XXX "What a life" I have written an Ode to the bench as follows: Ode to Mum's Bench Well Mum, we've finally got it, A bench that's fit for you, It proudly stands in Buckingham Park, With a simply splendid view. It overlooks old Shoreham Town, Where you did give your all, Mainly at the jumble sales, In quaint St Mary's Hall. It overlooks the butchers, Where you regularly shopped, Till one day the liver, In your bag was dropped. Then we had to go elsewhere, To get our weekly grub, Fortunately, Ted's shop allowed a sub. It has white violets nearby, Which from a field we nicked, We hope you like them, for next year A bunch for you will be picked. There's a cafe down the bottom, Where they do some nice teas And paradise cake slices, With a million calories . Folks will come to sit here, Chatting as they do And you can earwig conversations, All the whole day through. They'll look upon your plaque and think, What a wondrous life you led, Jumbles, pops and totting, It quite goes to your head. Such a fabulous existence, Not a care upon this Earth, Live only for tomorrow, For what its really worth. A great time was had by all, And through the years of strife, All that we can really say is, “Blimey, What a life !” Jim
