Family visit to the grave of John Alfred Plumb

Created by Jim 10 years ago
Hello Mum, On Saturday 12th April 2014 we took a family visit to Lille, N. France to visit Uncle John's grave and to scatter some of your ashes at the grave. It was a lovely spring day and we trekked about 3 miles to get to the cemetery at Saint Andre lez Lille. No mean feat for Jenny and I am not getting any younger! On the way we picked a huge bunch of wild flowers which included some violets. Lilly of the Valley were out of season unfortunately. We thought you would prefer wild flowers. We got lost a couple of times but managed to get back on course thanks to a local postman and Judith's knowledge of French! The cemetery was beautifully kept and John's grave was very prominent and easy to find. It was a very moving experience for all of us, particularly to see the ages of the young men buried there (what a waste of such fine people). We wish you could have been with us, but you are there in essence now. We know how much John meant to you as your only family once your Mum and Dad died. May you both Rest in Peace. Love from, Jim ,Andrew, Rob, Jenny, Mandy, Lynda, Sue and Judith
